Bio:
In December 2007, Kirsty Lee Akers was announced as a finalist in the Maton Best New Talent and Female Vocalist Of The Year categories at the 36th Country Music Awards Of Australia, capping off a remarkable 12 months for the nineteen year old performer from Kurri Kurri in NSW, A month later she achieved a lifelong ambition when she was crowned Best New Talent at the awards ceremony in Tamworth, Australia’s country music capital. Having won Toyota Star Maker in January 2007 Kirsty joined the ranks of some outstanding Australian talent … previous winners include Keith Urban, James Blundell, Lee Kernaghan and Beccy Cole. By winning her first Golden Guitar Kirsty has further cemented her place as one Australian Country Music’s brightest young stars. Signing with Compass Bros Records, the award winning Australian label that is home to the likes of Adam Brand, James Blundell, The Sunny Cowgirls and Dianna Corcoran, Kirsty entered the studio in late April with producer Graham Thompson (producer of hit albums by Brand, Blundell & Melinda Schneider), a collection of great songs and a stellar band including Rod McCormack, Glen Hannah, Ian Lees, Clayton Doley and Mitch Farmer. The resultant debut album ‘Little Things’ is an upbeat and cohesive set that showcases Kirsty’s commanding vocal skills and a talent for connecting with the listener. She tackles subjects as broad ranging as young love (Little Things, I Think He Likes Me) to an hilarious account of a young woman’s body clock (She Ain’t Getting Any), and a chilling first person account of a young life spent in foster care (The Territory) with an authority that belies her age and shows that her years of performing have shaped her into a confident, talented and convincing singer. ‘Little Things’, Kirsty’s debut album was officially launched at the 2007 Toyota National Country Music Muster on Wednesday August 22nd, 2007 The album’s title track - and first single - became a radio favourite reaching the upper echelons of the Country Music Channel’s request chart and peaking at 3 on the Country tracks airplay chart. Following The Muster, Kirsty joined stable mate and fellow Star Maker winner James Blundell on his ‘Ring Around The Moon’ Tour which saw them visiting NSW, VIC & QLD. Kirsty’s second single ‘Goin’ To The Beach’ was released to radio in late 2007 and quickly followed in the footsteps of its predecessor receiving healthy airplay on major radio stations and programs across the country.
