Bio:
It's a long way around from Glencoe, Alabama to Hollywood, to MusicCity but
Nashville based singer-songwriter has made the voyage, and has lived the life of a troubadour.

While
Hollywood isn't what some would call a "true country market", what some don't realize, is that it is the forefront of one of the best undiscovered underground country scenes going. "It's what you'd call rebellious cowboy rock,"
Watts says with a slight laugh, "we're just a bunch of cowboy misfits." Making the rounds all over town with fellow rebels and misfits that have included Keith Gattis (Dwight Yoakam), Dusty Wakeman (Lucinda Williams), up-and comers including Bryson Jones of the Snakehandlers, and Waylon Payne, son of Grammy Award Winning artist Sammi Smith ("Help Me Make it Through the Night"), Austin Hanks (2003 Nashville Star contestant) and Travis Howard (2002 Nashville Star contestant, and writer for Miranda Lambert).

Watts has made quite the impact that has lauded the praises of Hank Williams Jr., and landed her major gigs including opening for Alabama and Toby Keith in front of 50,000 screaming fans in her home state of Alabama, and most recently opening for Deana Carter and David Allan Coe at
Hollywood's Key Club.

But that's not all that this quirky little girl from
Alabama has accomplished. Currently without a label, she's attracted the ears of Grammy Award Winning Producer Pete Anderson and Courtney Love, Ryan Adams producer, Jim Barber. Tonya's songs are getting airplay on Watusi Rodeo 103.1 FM, Fallen Angel Radio online, KBCY in west Texas, and she reached # 1 on TOSSM online radio. Also. She has been featured in the
Roots Highway e-Zine, and numerous other online magazines.

Watts grew up on a mainstay of country music that included Cash, Bocephus, David Allan Coe, and Loretta Lynn. but it was Dolly Parton who she felt a kindred spirit to. Her earliest musical memory goes back to when she was just five years old where she'd go around the house putting on performances of Parton's "Me and Little Andy", complete with hairbrush microphone, for her family. But it wasn't until nearly twenty years later that her musical dreams would become a reality. Watts landed the role of Parton in "The Barbara Mandrell Story: Get to the Heart", and it's from there that she realized her deeper connection with music-- in the years that followed she'd start turning heads, opening ears and touching the hearts of the audiences she played for.

While her rebel soul is a tough one to tame she has the ability to unlock emotions that you never knew you had with her charming smile, girl-next-door persona and yet extreme intensity that demands that she freely speak her mind to anyone ready to listen. And sometimes even if your not - but don't worry, cuz once you have a little listen, this one woman southern rebellion, fighting her way through her own personal civil war for just a little peace, just might waltz away with your heart.

Reviews:

..a driving force in today’s music, Tonya Watts will soon be someone to be reckoned with

-- Pete Anderson
Grammy Award Winning Producer

In a day and time where audiences crave original music, no one else hits closer to home than Tonya Watts.  She rocks, she sways, and she’s got more heart than anybody out there…

-- Marc Ringwood
RootsHighway.com

Tonya Watts brings the heart and soul from the land of cotton and lets it breathe into a California Cowboy style that is quite frankly superb and full of endless and hopeful destinations.

-- Doc Holliday
Watusi Rodeo Indie 103.1 FM

Tonya Watts does it the way we like it out here on the Left Coast; unapologetic, honest and loyal to her crew. She works harder than anyone I know for her music, herself and the folks around her. Her songs are raw, personal and probably a little more outlaw than
Nashville would like. She’s the rowdy little sister to the LA Outlaw Scene.

-- Bryson Jones
Snakehandlers

There have been a few perfect, cool and reasonably intelligent handfuls of artists out there. Being a handful requires a lot. It means having steady hands so you can hold what’s in them. Tonya is awesome and has worked, prayed and lived the stories that she’s told. And I'm proud to call her one of my heroes.

-- Waylon Payne
