Van Preston is hot on the trail to making a name for herself. Van, like a lot of people, started writing when she was a child, in her case just nine years old. Ten years later when her writing had progressed to a new height she knew it was time to tell the world she had something to say. A few years later, after a broken marriage and shattered dreams, again like so many artists Van moved to Nashville to live out her dream. She will tell you that she absolutely loves writing and performing! Just sit with her for five minutes and you will know her energy never stops but the similarities do. Her debut self-titled CD is making waves among music industry back rooms, and both radio and press are taking note of Van's on-the-edge attitude about Love and Life.

Van’s first single "Absolutely Broken", was released to radio stations nationwide in February 2006. The entire album will be released to Americana and Alt-Country radio soon thereafter in Spring 2006. Imagine Lucinda meets Morissette and you get a pure but rootsy country sound with an attitude. Van’s attitude.

First and foremost Van is a writer. Recently her song "What Goes Around Comes Around", written when she was eighteen, placed in the top 15 songs in the 2006 CMT / NSAI Songwriting Competition, from over 6,000 entries! It will be featured on www.cmt.com for seven weeks, beginning March 1, 2006. She was also a finalist in the 2005 UK Songwriting competition, and was one of two writers chosen nationally by the John Lennon Songwriting Organization to perform at the Summer 2005 NAMM show. The video for her song, "Toy", is currently playing on Sprint VIDEO Mobile Voltage phones in London, Dublin, New York City, Miami, and Los Angeles. It is also being used in a TV series currently being pitched to MTV and HBO. The song will be released to major market radio stations this summer.

Van Preston paints a very unique portrait and story in her songs, drawing from a wealth of experience from the joys and pains of love gone wrong, the issues and concerns of a modern girl, and life in general. Using fresh, original, and honest lyrics, she incorporates a beautiful, unique voice with strong, sincere music. She is the real deal according to those who see and hear her perform with heartfelt emotion about true life experiences.

Born in a small town in Arkansas, Van began writing songs at the early age of nine. The oldest of three children to music loving parents, Van was encouraged by both her mother and father to pursue her talent of writing and performing. Despite humble circumstances, Van strove to succeed at everything she set out to do.

Singing and writing music throughout her early years, Van won several talent competitions in school. She also played trumpet throughout Junior and Senior High School. Graduating as high school Valedictorian, Van was awarded a full scholarship to ShimerCollege in Chicago. Van's love for music and writing continued into her college and adult years.

As a College Freshman and Sophomore, she concentrated efforts to attempt getting some of her lyrics published. Then, she took a detour from her musical ambitions during the remaining years of college and finished a degree in Business Administration at College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1998.
